– Use a lower heat setting on your iron. Polyester is a synthetic fabric, and too much heat can damage it. Set your iron to the “synthetic” setting or 110 degrees Celsius. A low or moderate heat setting should be sufficient for most types of polyester fabric.
– Use steam sparingly. Again, because polyester is a synthetic fabric, too much steam can damage it. If you find out you must use steam, do so sparingly and direct the steam away from the garment.
– Use a pressing cloth. A pressing cloth is a thin fabric that you place between the iron and the garment to protect the fabric from direct contact with the iron. This is especially important when working with delicate or sensitive fabrics like polyester.
– Be careful not to over-iron. Polyester is a durable fabric, but over-ironing can still cause damage. When in doubt, err on the side of caution and iron for shorter periods rather than longer ones.
– Take care when ironing around buttons and other embellishments. These can be sensitive areas, so take extra care not to apply too much heat or pressure when ironing around them.
– Let the garment cool completely before removing it from the ironing board. This will help set the garment’s shape and prevent wrinkles from reforming.
